Does the hose behind the dryer actually need replacing?

Pull the dryer out and look. Crushed flat behind the machine counts. So do tears, kinks, silver tape patches, and lint dusting the floor at the clamp. White vinyl hose should come out regardless. Foil flex sags between supports, and lint settles in every sag.

That hose is a transition duct. It connects the dryer to the wall and nothing more. It should never run inside a wall, floor, or chase. Semi-rigid aluminum holds its shape where foil collapses. Joints get clamps and foil tape. Sheet metal screws point inward and snag lint, so they stay out.

Clearance drives most of this work here. Short block-wall garage runs with a 90 at the dryer leave almost no room behind the machine. A rigid periscope fitting solves that without crushing anything. Narrow interior laundry closets with pedestal washers do the same damage. New hose alone often changes nothing. If clothes take two or three cycles in July, the blockage is usually further out: lint caked wet to the duct wall, or a roof cap nested shut by wasps. Replace the hose, then clear the full run.
